What We Believe

At Faith Church we celebrate the gifts of our Christian heritage with a Presbyterian flavor.

At the heart of our life together, in our worship, we intentionally enter into God’s word and participate in the sacraments Jesus offers us.

God’s Word
We believe scripture, both the Old and New Testaments, is, to quote, “inspired by the Holy Spirit, as the unique and authoritative witness to Jesus Christ in the Church universal, as God’s word” to us. Which means, we believe God, through the Holy Spirit, uses the Bible to help us discover more about God’s love for us in Jesus Christ.

In the Bible, in scripture, we hear over and over again how God created us for relationships with God and with one another. We also see all the ways we humans run away from, or run toward, God. The Bible is filled with stories, prayers, sermons, hymns and songs that comfort, challenge and confront us with the wonder and demands of God’s love. From Jesus we learn a way to live that brings healing and love into our lives and into the world. Through Jesus we can develop a deep, eternal relationship with God.

God’s Sacraments – Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

For all the times in our life when words are not enough, or we just need another way to experience God’s presence – God touches us using water, bread and wine. The sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper are outward ways to experience what God wants to give us internally.

Baptism is a sign of God’s desire to be in relationship with us. Baptism is offered to people of all ages – infants, youth or adult – to mark the beginning of our Christian life. In baptism, God is acting in our lives, using water to purify and claim us as part of Jesus’ family – to claims us as Jesus’ brothers and sisters. Scripture teaches us that in baptism we are born into a new resurrected life with Jesus.

We believe that one baptism, no matter what your age, is all you ever need, because God gives baptism as an eternal gift for this life and the next life.

At the Lord’s Supper Jesus feeds us bread and wine (or juice) so we keep growing and developing as Christians. In the Lord’s Supper, Jesus welcomes us to the table as friends and family. Jesus welcomes us to the table as a place for forgiveness and sharing. All who are baptized, in whatever Christian tradition, are invited to participate in this meal.

Confirmation
In baptism, infants and children receive God’s love and promises long before they can express their love for God. As children grow into adolescence or young adulthood they are invited to learn more about God through Confirmation classes and then decide if they are ready to make a commitment to follow Jesus, a commitment to love and serve God.

Adults generally go through New Member classes as they consider what it means to believe in and follow Jesus.

Whether youth or adult – every one answers the question “Do you trust Jesus as your Lord and Savior?”
